Flag of the city of Poltava
The flag of the city consists of two horizontal stripes in proportion to each other. The upper stripe is white, which in heraldry symbolizes dignity, spirituality, sincerity, purity, justice.
The lower stripe is blue-green, symbolizing faith, hope, confidence, the struggle for freedom (will), happiness and agriculture.
The ratio of the sides of the flag is one to two.
It contains a composition of elements of the city's coat of arms, consisting of a golden bow, the string of which is stretched by an arrow, the tip of which is directed downwards. The composition is crowned by the golden inscription "POLTAVA" and golden guard hexagonal Cossack stars.
The axis of the arrow is the compositional axis of the image and is located from the flagpole at a distance of 1/3 of the length of the flag.
The flagpole is crowned with a golden ball, which symbolizes the horizon sphere of the planet Earth or the Sun.
